Wild Cherry, also know as 'The Gean' is a medium sized tree with short, stout branches that take an upward direction. The leaves are large, broadly oval, with toothed edges. In spring foliage has a bronze tint before changing to a bright green colour. The firm fleshed cherry fruit is heart shaped, black or red, with juice that stains the fingers. This species is believed to be the origional stock from which our Black Heart and Bigarreau Cherries have been bred.
