Prunus sargentii 'Charles Sargent' is a dominant selection derived from the prunus sargentii species, with a broad fan-shaped to rounded crown and an eventual height of 8 - 10 m. The bark is a glossy chestnut brown.
Young leaves are bronze coloured but later turn green and the autumnal colour is a remarkable orange-red. The tree flowers in early April, before the emergence of the leaves, producing light pink flowers that hardly lose their colour during the flowering period of almost 3 weeks. They are followed by a few small dark red fruits.
