When raw, the apples can be sliced and added to salads and sandwiches or served on a cheese board or fruit platter. The sweet-tart flavor of the Braeburn apple mellows just slightly when cooked and will compliment both sweet and savory preparations. Braeburn apples hold their shape well when cooked.
Braeburn apple. Braeburn is one of the most important commercial apple varieties. It originated in New Zealand in the 1950s, and by the last decades of the 20th century had been planted in all the major warm apple-growing regions of the world. Braeburn accounts for 40% of the entire apple production of New Zealand.
A substitute for the Braeburn, Cox's orange pippin is the classic English apple and is described as the finest of all dessert apples. It has a rich complexity of flavor, but is not as popular with supermarket growers because it is not easy to grow.
