Origin from Europe and Asia. Naturally a forest tree. Since ancient times used as a park and avenue tree, height 15 to 20 m. Short, sturdy, grey, smooth trunk which later grooves deep smooth muscle-like grooves the English name: Musclewoods. Beautiful graceful loose fruit catkins. Golden yellow autumn colouring. Dense and broad crown, slightly lower branches sag. Requests nutrient-rich, loamy soils that are not too dry. Often used as a park tree in groups, pleached into screening trees, in forest parks and avenue trees. Very suitable for guiding.
